Electric Vehicle is one of the trending field to be opted as a Career by Engineers and Upcoming Engineers. The main reason to choose Electric Vehicle domain as a career because the Automobile Industry is rapidly shifting towards EV technology and there is a very big skill gap between Industry and Academia which needs to be fulfilled by the Education sector.

The government adopted the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EV (FAME) scheme in 2015 with an outlay of INR 8.95 billion (USD 130 million), which provided subsidies for electric 2- and 3-wheelers, hybrid and e-cars and buses. Government has recently approved Phase-II of FAME Scheme with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 Crore for a period of 3 years commencing from 1st April 2019. Out of total budgetary support, about 86 percent of fund has been allocated for Demand Incentive so as to create demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the country.

As a conclusion, electric vehicle is the only sector which is in boom since the world has decided to switch from IC Engine Vehicle to Electric Vehicle. According to the estimate of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the EV industry alone will create 1 Million jobs by 2030. For every direct job, there will likely be five indirect jobs in the society - this takes the number of total employments by the EV industry to about 5 Million.

The requirement is now to prepare a Skilled Workforce of Engineers and Technicians for EV sector so that the gap between the Industry and Academia is fulfilled, and to fulfil the gap we need to create a Roadmap for the Academia so that the education sector can proceed in right direction.
